Word of the Week: Holy

Holy means perfect or without sin. God is the only one who is holy because he is the only one who is perfect and without sin. God called us to be holy too. According to the author of Hebrews, God made us holy because Jesus died for our sins.
Hebrews 10:10
So we are made holy because Christ obeyed God and offered himself once for all.

1 Peter 1: 16 says, I am the holy God, and you must be holy too. So how do we live a holy life? 1 Peter 1:13-22 gives us some clues. 

1. Watch out! Be alert and think straight (verse13). Think of sin as a hole in the ground, if you know it's there you will look out for it because you don't want to fall in it. 
2. Look forward! Put all your hope in how kind God will be to you when Jesus Christ appears (verse 13). Set your hope on Jesus' return - live today with eternity in mind.
3. Behave! Behave like obedient children. Don’t let your lives be controlled by your desires, as they used to be (verse 14). Obey God's word, don't give in to your sinful desires.
4. Respect God! You say that God is your Father, but God doesn’t have favorites! He judges all people by what they do (verse 17). Live in reverent fear because God will judge each person's actions - respect God.
5. Love! Now you sincerely love each other. But you must keep on loving with all your heart  (verse 22).  It's hard not to be holy if you love each other.

Being holy is not something we can do in our own strength that's why God gave us his Holy Spirit to live in us and help us.
