This is so funny - but so true. We think we go to church for us, but we should go to worship God and bless his family by serving. The full passage of 1 Timothy 2:1-4 says, First of all, I ask that you pray for all people. Ask God to bless them and give them what they need. And give thanks. You should pray for rulers and for all who have authority. Pray for these leaders so that we can live quiet and peaceful lives—lives full of devotion to God and respect for him. This is good and pleases God our Savior. God wants everyone to be saved and to fully understand the truth.
In this passage Paul was instructing Timothy about public prayer and was telling him that praying for the salvation of the whole world was an important part of this. I think that praying for the unsaved is an important part of your personal prayer time too. You can pray for salvation for your unsaved family and friends, for opportunities to share God's good news with unsaved people you know and ask for wisdom to know what to say. CHALLENGE: Choose several unsaved friends or family members and pray for them daily. Being a Christian is all about belonging to God's family, the church. The Greek word for 'one another' is used 100 times in the Bible and these instructions tell us how he wants us to treat each other.
In Mark 9:50 Jesus instructs his followers to "Live at peace with one another." Matthew 5:9 has a promise for peace-makers, "God blesses those people who make peace. They will be called his children!" The good news is that God gives us peace - Philippians 4:7 says, "God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel." CHALLENGE: Think of someone who has hurt you or that rubs you up the wrong way. What can you do to make peace with them by helping them and being kind? |
