I used to memorise passages of Scripture by writing them out by hand, carrying them around with me and practice reciting them. At one stage I memorised the whole sermon on the mount (Matthew 5-7). Even though I can't remember the passage word for word any more, I have a good idea what these chapters are about - it stuck really well. Why don't you try to memorise a passage or even a whole chapter? Perhaps start with a Psalm or something from the New Testament.
Verse one of this chapter tells us why we should care about each other - it's because God loves us and has shown us mercy and kindness. It's easy to say, "yeah, I love everyone," but do your actions show it?
Kate Moss's birthday party lasted for four days, Justin Bieber rented an entire island for his 21st birthday party and Simon Cowell spent over one million dollars on his 50th birthday party. Christmas is really the most epic birthday party though - it's been going for 2000 years and has been celebrated by millions of Jesus' friends and family. This Christmas take time to remember to keep Christ in Christmas. This year I'm going to write a birthday card for Jesus and thank him for all that he has done for me.
Verses 2-6 of Philippians 2 is a poem. It is basically a summary of the Gospel. Jesus came to earth as a baby and became like us (the Christmas Story), then he died on the cross and rose again so we could become his children (the Easter Story). And what is the whole point of this story? LOVE!
Challenge: do you have friends who don't know Jesus? Perhaps you could invite them to church this Christmas so they can hear it for themselves. |
