Society has a fascination with the rich and famous - we follow them on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, on television and in magazines. These people might be rich financially, but they are poor in spirit. God is interested in the poor - those who are marginalised, oppressed and vulnerable. The Bible mentions the poor over 300 times - that shows how important the issue is to God.
Proverbs 31:8-9 says, Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. So how can you help the poor if you are a teenager or a student and don't even have a job yet?
1. You can participate in fundraising events such as the World Vision 40 Hour Famine.
2. Donating some of your clothes or belongings to charities such as the Good Sammmies, Salvos, Save the Children Fund or Vinnies.
3. You could volunteer at an Op shop (see website above).
