I have to admit that there are some verses in the Bible that make me cringe because I can see how people misinterpret them. 2 Timothy 2:9-10 are such verses.
In the same way, I want women to enhance their appearance with clothing that is modest and sensible, not with elaborate hairstyles, gold, pearls, or expensive clothes. They should make themselves attractive by doing good, which is appropriate for women who claim to honor God.
These verses are not saying that you need to dress like an Amish person or that you can't wear makeup or jewellery. They are saying that your primary focus shouldn't be on these things. You only have to look at the Kardashians and other social media celebrities to see what happens when you focus all your attention on outward appearances. They are not known for their philanthropic, or charity work or love, just for fitting the media's perception of outward beauty. It's not really attractive. Rather, doing good, being kind, loving others is what we should be focussed on and where true beauty comes from.
