It is part of the human condition to feel down, depressed or sad at various times. This may be due to difficult circumstances, chemical imbalances in your body (depression) or hormones. King David suffered times of despair. Psalm 13:1 says, How much longer, Lord, will you forget about me? Will it be forever? How long must I be confused and miserable all day? This Psalm finishes with, I trust your love and I feel like celebrating because you rescued me. You have been good to me, Lord, and I will sing about you (verse 5-6). So what changed? Why did David go from feeling deserted by God to feeling rescued by him?
1. He cried out to God. When we cry out to God, he responds. Romans 10:12 says, There is only one Lord, and he is generous to everyone who asks for his help. If you are feeling down, depressed or despondent, cry out to him. He speaks to us through his Word and through his Holy Spirit that lives in us.
2. He sang to God - I find that praise always lifts me up when I'm feeling down.
