We live in a society that is obsessed with consuming. No matter how much we have, we want more. We want the latest and the best of everything. Now I admit that I enjoy a bit of retail therapy as much as the next person but I guess it becomes sin when we "have to have" that new bag, or dress, or phone, no matter what. It's also a problem when we spend more than we have. Hebrews 13:5 says, Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have. It's okay to have nice things as long as they don't have us. The next time you go shopping ask yourself, "do I really need this?" Perhaps you can donate an item to charity when you buy a new one.
