Christmas lights are great, but they're not very impressive until you take them out of the box, hang them on your house or tree, plug them in and turn them on. Matthew 5:16 says, Make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise your Father in heaven. When we shine by being kind, being loving, being generous, being compassionate, being patient...it gives glory to God. But you can't shine on your own, you need to be plugged in. Next time you pass your Christmas tree or the neighbour's house that's all lit up, consider what you are doing to shine the light of Christ this Christmas.

You won't find much snow in Australia at Christmas but the rest is true. John 15:5-6 says, I am the vine, and you are the branches. If you stay joined to me, and I stay joined to you, then you will produce lots of fruit. But you cannot do anything without me. If you don’t stay joined to me, you will be thrown away. You will be like dry branches that are gathered up and burned in a fire.
Branches can't live and produce fruit without the tree. You can't be a Christian and produce fruit without Jesus. If you're wondering what kind of fruit Jesus is talking about here, Galatians 5:22-23 says, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. If you're wondering how you stay connected to Jesus, you read your Bible, go to church and Bible Study and talk to God (pray). Thousands of children go without Christmas gifts each year because their families can't afford them. You may not have a lot of money, but perhaps you can afford to buy a toy for an underprivileged child. Acts 2:45 says, They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. The early christians sold some of their stuff so they could give to those in need. You can leave gifts at Target stores around Australia and Uniting Care will distribute them to those in need. I love these sharpie art plates by Shabby Art Boutique. You could make great Christmas gifts by writing Bible verses or song lyrics on them. All you need is a sharpie pen, a cheap plate from K-Mart, Target or Big W and an oven. Find the instructions here.
