I designed the template on Canva including the Bible verse and dots (you can download it below). I punched through the dots with a yarn needle then sewed multicoloured yarn through the holes. You could also use embroidery thread if you preferred. I put it in a frame without the glass and voila. It would make a great gift or decor item for your room.
Matthew 5:13 says, You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its salty taste, it cannot be made salty again. It is good for nothing. It must be thrown out for people to walk on.
It is written to all Christians, not just the disciples, or teachers, or people over 25. You are the salt of the earth. Salt adds flavour. Chips are great, but chips without salt? Not so much. Christians should add flavour their local communities - flavours like love, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, hope and joy. How can you be the salt of the earth this week? Matthew 5:3 says, Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!
Matthew 5:10 says, Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! The Kingdom of heaven that Jesus is referring to here isn't physical location, or a realm. John Piper explains it as God's kingly rule or reign, rather than a physical realm. You might look at the earth and think that it doesn't look like God is ruling. His reign will ultimately come in to effect when Jesus comes again and Satan is cast into the pit. But it has come already in the person of Jesus who died and rose again so that we can live in eternity with him under the ultimate reign of God. So the kingdom of God is now and not yet. We can enjoy it in part now because of the redemptive work of Jesus, but we will experience it in full when he comes again. For more information see https://www.desiringgod.org The Sermon on the Mount starts with the beatitudes, a series of blessings for God's people. At the time of Jesus' ministry the Israel was under Roman rule and the people were not following the Old Testament laws that God gave them through Moses. The word blessed in this passage is more accurately translated as happy. Jesus is saying that people are happy when they:
are spiritually poor mourn are humble desire to do what God wants are merciful are pure in heart work for peace are persecuted. The world would have a very different list of people it thinks are happy: rich successful popular beautiful talented. The beatitudes are a great example of God's upside down kingdom. God's people are happy because he has blessed them with salvation, a home in eternity, hope, peace, and love (amongst other things). |
