Kara at Joy Because Grace has a great Valentine's Day Survival Guide for Single Girls - you can find it here. She reminds us that there is a guy that loves us - his name is Jesus. She has some great suggestions to not just surviving Valentine's Day, but really enjoying it. I love her idea to babysit for a married couple so that they can go out for dinner. You could organise to do it with a friend. It's much better than sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself and you would be doing someone a huge favour.
Fevr.net has a very interesting article entitled 5 things you might not know about Jesus. One of the facts is that Jesus hung out in the red light district (dodgy part of town). He associated with prostitutes, corrupt taxmen and people who were unfaithful. Luke 5:30-32 says, The Pharisees and some of their teachers of the Law of Moses grumbled to Jesus' disciples, "Why do you eat and drink with those tax collectors and other sinners?" Jesus answered, "Healthy people don't need a doctor, but sick people do. I didn't come to invite good people to turn to God. I came to invite sinners. In other words, we need to be in contact with non-Christians if we are going to witness to them. Check out the full article for four other interesting facts about Jesus.
This would make a great t-shirt for yourself or for a friend. You can find the tutorial at Snap Guide. You will need t-shirt, bleach, spray bottle, masking tape, newspaper, sponge and acrylic paint. Be careful with the bleach - it's probably a good idea to work outside.
In this video the young woman undergoes an amazing transformation (which apparently is worth $75,000 and would not be possible without a team of experts, five hours and a very expensive dress). Colossians 3:10 says, You are living a brand new kind of life that is continually learning more and more of what is right, and trying constantly to be more and more like Christ who created this new life within you. This makeover of your inner self to be more like Christ is way more important than having your hair and makeup done. 1 Peter 3:3-4 says, Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. The world says that how you look is important but the Bible says that who you are on in the inside is more important. Becoming more like Christ takes time too so be patient with yourself - you're a work in progress.
I love this verse and am finally got up to Jeremiah 29 in my Bible reading (I started at Genesis a year ago). It's good to know the context for this verse in the Bible. |
