Jesus hung out with people that no one else wanted to - prostitutes, tax collectors, the sick and poor. Do you spend time with people who are hard to love? The new kid; the muslim girl with the burka; the kid with body odour issues; the girl who has an unfortunate case of acne; the boy with no idea about personal space; the overweight kid? Are you kind to them? Jesus loves them. Luke 6:32-33 says “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that."
AHA Student Edition by Kyle Idleman, explains how to move from the AHA moment in your life, when you realise something needs to change, into action through the story of the prodigal son. He says there are three main ingredients in this process:
1. A sudden awakening 2. Brutal honesty 3. Immediate action. Kyle's writing style in informal and humorous. This is a student edition so it it easy for teens and young adults to relate to. The world is a pretty messed up place - there is sickness, murder, war, violence, greed, anger and poverty. It's easy to get caught up in youthful enthusiasm and want to change the world, but how do you do that when you're just a teenager in high school? The answer is love. Love God and love people, especially the unlovely ones. John 13:34-35 says “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” If you love someone you want to do nice things for them. And that's how you change the world, one soul at a time.
The Rebelution started with two teenage brothers who felt passionately that their generation was being brought up with a culture of low expectations. They started blogging and wrote a book, Do Hard Things, and ran youth conferences. They have inspired teenagers to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for missions, make films, write music and many other things. Their mission statement in 1 Timothy 4:2 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
